Explained: Why Christians Give Back to God

God gave us everything we have, including our very lives. According to scripture, we “steward” or “manage” the time, talent, and material resources that God has given to us. One aspect of that larger stewardship responsibility has to do with the way that we allocate our financial resources and the impact that those decisions have on the condition of our hearts. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus cautions us not to place our trust in earthly treasure:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Check your heart before you give today. God commands us to give cheerfully and based on our ability to give. If you are giving to join God in His work and to fulfill the great commission then you’re welcome to give online or using one of the offering boxes at the church. Giving back to God a portion of the financial resources He has entrusted us with is not only good stewardship; it is also an act of worship and of obedience to Jesus’ command for us to “store up treasures in heaven.”

Thank you for your kind and generous gift!
